Data Description
Local Health Boards (LHBs) are responsible for the planning and provision of health care services within their area at all levels. ODS publish data re Welsh LHBs and their sites.
How Data is Maintained
Local Health Boards in Wales are statutory organisations. As such, any establishment, dissolution or changes to the name of LHBs are published in a Statutory Instrument, which is released on to the Government website of the Office for Public Sector Information. The ODS check this website daily and implement any changes required. Information on LHB sites and other minor changes to the parent organisations are relayed to ODS by Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW).
ODS also work closely with DHCW with regards to Welsh organisations. DHCW perform a similar function to ODS within Wales and have input over development of Welsh organisation data.
Note that Primary RoleID RO142 LOCAL HEALTH BOARD and RO148 LOCAL HEALTH BOARD SITE are the contemporary/correct codes. Codes published under Primary Role ID RO144 Welsh Local Health Board and RO149 Welsh Local Health Board Site are all closed/should not be used.

whbs.csv
This legacy csv file has been deprecated because it is no longer fit for purpose since the introduction of the ANANA code frame. Previously, WHB Site codes included the parent code in their first 3 characters which enabled the parent org to be derived. This is no longer the case with ANANA codes, and so from this legacy report, there is no way of mapping the site to the parent org. As WHB and WHB Site data are available via separate pre defined reports, the decision has been made to withdraw this file from publication.
